'Quite raw and chilly': Central, Western Mass. could see as much as 4 inches of snow on Saturday (2025)

Rain and wet snow are on track to start in Massachusetts early Saturday morning, and some areas could see up to 4 inches of snow during this new storm.

Wet weather is likely to start after 12 a.m. on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Any warming is expected to be milder compared to prior forecasts, leaning into the potential for rain southeast of Interstate 95, but a few wet snowflakes/sleet pellets may be mixed in at the onset,“ forecasters wrote.

Northwest of I-95 could see enough cooling to allow for wet snow and sleet to impact areas, forecasters said.

Overnight lows should stay consistent as conditions stay cool, in the 30s Friday night and on Saturday, forecasters said. Boston should reach a low of 37, while Springfield could hit 35 and Worcester could be the coolest at 33.

Worcester should see snow before 10 a.m. on Saturday, then possibly after that time and 11 a.m., followed by rain, forecasters said. Highs should reach 35 degrees. Any snowfall accumulation should be between 1 and 2 inches.

In Springfield, rain and snow should turn into just rain by 11 a.m. Saturday’s high should be close to 37 degrees, with no snow accumulation likely, forecasters said.

Similarly, Boston is not expected to see any snow. It should also reach 37 degrees, but it’s also expected before 10 a.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory will also go into effect at 2 a.m. Saturday and continue on until 2 p.m. that same day. This advisory covers cities like Greenfield, Orange, Barre, Ayer, Blandford, Charlemont, Chesterfield and Fitchburg."

For places like the Worcester Hills and the Berkshires, mixed conditions are very likely, the advisory read.

“Total snow and sleet accumulations between 1 and 4 inches with the larger amounts most likely in the highest terrain,” according to the advisory. “Ice accumulations around a light glaze possible... Roadways may become snow-covered at elevations at or above 1,000 feet, but will likely be more wet or just very briefly slush-covered in the lower elevations.”

Precipitation should taper off by Saturday afternoon, but rain should pick back up slightly again on Sunday, forecasters said. But temperatures should pick back up. Less “quite raw and chilly,” temperatures on Sunday should be back in the 40s, the weather service wrote.

A cold front should enter the region late on Monday, after a day that should bring back sunshine, forecasters said. Temperatures should warm up by this point, up in the 60s. even as a storm brings rain back on Tuesday.
